Thanks to the sales of its flagship smartphone Galaxy S, Samsung drove past HTC to become world fourth -largest maker of smartphones in the July-September quarter.
According to the report by International Data Corp, Samsung claimed 8.9 percent of smartphones shipped globally during the quarter.
Smartphone makers and shipments in 3rd Q:
Nokia – No.1 – 32.7 percent
Apple – No.2 – 17.4 percent
RIM – No.3 – 15.3 percent
Samsung – No.4 – 8.9 percent
HTC – No.5 – 7.2 percent

According to Digitimes Research, Android phone shipments are expected to surpass 55 Million units worldwide in 2010. The entry of Samsung and LG in Android arena for last sometime is being attributed as the reason for this growth. HTC And Motorola are other two major players making Android smartphones.

Android's share of the worldwide smartphone market has risen from less than 5% in 2009 to 13.8% in the first half of 2010 and is projected to reach 24.5% in the second half to become the second most popular smartphone platform, according to Lin. Shipments of Android-based smartphones are estimated to jump 561% from a year ago to more than 55 million units in 2010.

Spice Mobile today announced three Android devices for Indian market. These devices include two smartphones MI410 and MI300, and MI700 Android tablet.
Spice MI300 Android smartphone was first launched in Malaysia last month and will be immediately available in India for Rs 9900.
Spice MI300
Spice MI300 comes with Qualcomm Chipset (600 MHz processor), 3G Quadband, 3.2 inch HVGA Capacitive Touch, dimension 114.9 x 56.8 x 12.6mm, ROM 512 MB / RAM 256 MB, GPS with Navigator, Push Email, BT 2.0, 5-Megapixel Camera, WiFi and G-sensor + E-compass + Proximity Sensor.
Coming to Spice MI410, which is a high end Android smartphone. It will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, 4.1 inch display and Android 2.1. It will be available in the market sometime in October- November.
At last about the tablet, Spice MI700 will be powered by Android 2.2 and Qualcomm MSM 7227 chipset and come with 7 inch display. It will also be available in October.
Spice has not given any pricing information for MI410 and MI700 right now. But Mi-300 is exclusively available across 200+ Spice HotSpot outlets across the top metros and cities across the country from today.

Yes, that's what it seems right now. Techradar is reporting via their trusted sources that Android 3.1 will be codenamed Honeycomb. It falls in the line how Google codenamed Android's earlier versions. As we are still waiting for Gingerbread, we can't expect any details about 'Honeycomb'.
Then we have a good news for you. We all know auto fares were recently increased in the city, but it is hard to find Auto drivers with updated fare-meters or with the new fare chart. So, Srikanth used his programming skills to make a handy fare conversion app for Android phones. There is one Java app for other phones too.

Hardware:
The modest dark grey plastic cover is an indication that HTC Desire is more about substance than style. A powerful 1 GHz Snapdragon Processor, a touch-sensitive track pad and clicky buttons differentiate it from Nexus One, its Google branded cousin.
What is also different is the HTC Desire lacks the noise cancellation feature as well as the voice recognition for texts and e-mails. However, considering that the latter was not very popular among users, it will hardly be missed in HTC Desire.
Camera:
The phone has a 5 mega pixel camera. It is fast to start and the shutter lag is hardly noticeable. The LED photo light is quite useful when clicking pictures in the dark. The video recording capability is amazingly clear and changes in lighting are taken into consideration. The pictures taken are quickly written onto the memory card and it is an indication of the powerful processor and the 512 MB RAM.
HTC Sense UI:
The inclusion of the HTC Sense UI is the single most differentiating factor between the Desire and Nexus One. It covers the Android 2.1 operating system with an attractive user interface. The extra apps add zing to the phone. The Desire has a comprehensive address book that compiles all the contacts and photos from Outlook, Gmail, Facebook and Flickr. If only it could merge Outlook emails and other emails accounts and had more polished widgets, then it would have been perfect, but for now, we have no complaints against the available apps.
Despite all its charms that immediately woo the techno enthusiasts, HTC Desire is not the perfect smartphone. The battery life is short and needs regular recharging. Taking off the battery cover causes its to flex and pop, which is a big concern.
If you are ready to overlook these glitches, then you have a almost perfect phone in your hand, that does not compromise on its utility functions. The pluses seem to overtake the drawback, and that is what makes this Android run HTC smartphone oh so desirable.
Dell Streak
Those of waiting for Dell Streak smartphone in Asia-Pacific region, you might have to wait till next year. According to Steve Felice, president of Dell's small and medium business unit – "We have not yet announced the expansion plans for Streak in Asia. I suspect the early part of next year we'll see that product", reported PC World.
However, according to an earlier report, Michael Tatelman, Dell Vice President for Global Consumer Channel Sales & Marketing said that Dell Streak will come to India in October this year. So, I am not sure if India will also get the device next year. We are listening here contradictory statements from two Dell Executives.
This large smartphone is already under-sale in in the U.S. and Europe. It comes with a 5-inch touchscreen display with Gorilla glass, packs a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, two cameras, including a front-facing VGA camera, and can connect to Wi-Fi and 3G networks.
The delay might be good in a respect that the version of Streak releasing in Asia will come updated with Android 2.2. Dell has also said that company will launch Dell Aero Android smartphone before Streak in Asia, so get ready to see Aero soon in your country.
Remember it is just a prototype and final version is bound to have some changes. Not saying much lets take you to the video preview directly.
Talking about the hardware, Dell Thunder should sport a 4.1 inch OLED display, 1GHz CPU, and 8 megapixel camera, rest of the specifications are not available right now. It is sport Android 2.2 with Dell Stage UI on launch, while the prototype were running Android 1.6.
